I see the space behind the lines.
Does it fill the page or do these words fill it?
One does not look at the space that is behind lines.
Nevertheless, I write because I have something to say —
Today, I felt something very strong, like:
Kites, swimming through the sky on a windy day.
Neighbors, walking by and smiling our way.
One had realized what they forgot at home.
When we locked eyes, she remembered a social component.
Hot and cold washed over her, sluggish for the trek home.
And when she turned back, her dog followed along.
Then she returned to find that her keys were gone.
It can’t be, she said – she had taken them from home.
And then she went back, and she retraced her steps.
Mowing through grass as if her life depended on it.
